Brimham Rocks Review
June 27, 2025Why visit?
Brimham Rocks is a hidden gem that offers a striking blend of natural beauty and geological intrigue. We love climbing the huge rock formations and seeing the stunning views. A remnant of the last ice age, these sand stone giants are truly spectacular, a must see attraction for all visitors to Harrogate.
Location
Nestled into the countryside between Harrogate and Ripon, Brimham Rocks are only accessible by car or taxi.
What to expect
Brimham Rocks is a National Trust site, granting free parking to all members. Just remember to scan your card on the ticket machine. Non members will have to pay on arrival.
Once you are parked, you can take one of a number of trails, all of which will eventually lead you to the cafe. Feel free to explore and climb the rocks at your own risk. People have been climbing there for centuries, however, it is recommended that you do not help anyone up and you stay within your own abilities.
That said have fun exploring!
The cafe is located after the main cluster of huge boulders. Seating is all outdoors, and availability will depend on season and time of day. See website for more details.
You are also welcome to bring your own pick nick. Just do not set fires and BBQ are strictly prohibited.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Dogs are very welcome, however they MUST be kept on a short lead at all times, especially around the rocks, and across the moorland where there are ground nesting birds.
The park will also ask that you do not let your dogs climb as they can get sudden attacks of vertigo, especially on the higher rock formations, thus putting their owners and other humans at risk.
Is it suitable for Children?
Yes, Brimham Rocks is the perfect place for adventurous children and parents, and this you enjoy walks and looking at interesting rocks.
Small children can have a great time following the paths and looking at the rocks. Older children are welcome to climb under close parental supervision. Some of the rocks can be slippery so do make sure everyone takes care under foot.
There is also ice cream at the kiosk.
