Dog Friendly Harrogate

Harrogate is a great town for dogs.  Acres of open space known as The Stray covers a substantial part of the town centre. Excellent for dog walkers, cyclists, runners and picnics.  It gives Harrogate its special ambience.  The council has provided a good number of red bins specially for dig walkers.

There are several walks beloved of dog walkers from the town centre: The Stray, The large open area in the town centre is ideal for safely exercising dogs.

The Valley Gardens- only suitable for dogs on leads.

Pine Woods, where dogs can be let off their leads to play.

From the Northern end of town dog walkers like the path to Ripley, it follows the old railway line so you can expect to meet cyclists as well as runners and walkers. This route is very popular with family groups throughout the summer season.  It goes from the back of Asda supermarket, crosses the Skipton road then follows the railway line for a few hundred yards before crossing the track.  The path is well marked.

Another favourite is the Nidderdale walk running from Bilton Lane where it meets the Beryl Burton Cycle Way. It takes in the The Greenway to Ripley and the Nidd Valley Viaduct – takes about 3 hours.
