DogFest 2023
September 26, 2023Last Saturday we went to the annual dog festival held at Harewood House, just outside of Harrogate. It was wonderful to see so many dogs there having a great time.
Our dog Duke certainly enjoyed himself. There was so much to do this year!
The first point of call was the Fun Dog Show where we entered him for a couple of events. Events ranged from the most “Fabulous Fella” to the “Best Treat Catcher”. Competition was fierce! We didn't mange to win a rosette on this occasion however Duke had a great time! And that was our reason for going!
The next point of call was the "Give It A Go" agility ring. This was a great opportunity for Duke to let off some steam and put his brain to work. Ok this was not his first time doing dog agility, and he certainly made his way around like a pro except he will only go through a tunnel one way, and if you ask him to go through from the opposite end he will refuse, this caused a lot of amusement for the crowd and he certainly had fun.
The hay bail race was next. He flew through the air, easily defeating his opponent. It was a marvel to see. I think we found his event!
As well as the fun activities there were plenty of demonstrations. My personal favourite was the rescue demo by the Newfoundlands. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing a Newfoundland, imagine a bear with a friendly face. These powerful big dogs are used in river and sea rescues, to pull boats and people out of the water. They are truly incredible. I hope they come again next year!
But it was not all about dogs! There was plenty to keep the children happy as well. The trampoline and merry-go-round were particular favourites. And both children and dogs had a lovely time in the play zone, playing in the ball pool and using the swing tennis stands.
Do you love shopping? If so, you would have been in heaven. Many independent pet shops had set up stalls for the events. Of course there were also serval dog food brands around as well.
All in all a great way to spend a weekend. I would definitely recommend it for next year!
