Fountains Abbey

Why we love Fountains Abbey

We have been going to Fountains Abbey since forever, and it still managers to amaze us. There is so much for children to explore within the ruins, as well as educational materials on the abbey's rich history.

The abbey is also part of the Studdley Royal estate and there is a beautiful circular walk you can do from the abbey to Studdley Royal, following the river.  There is also a rather nice cafe at the half way point before circling back to the Abbey.

Ideal for Families

The Abbey has an amazing adventure playground which your children will love, including a tree house. If that is not enough, there are also the ruins themselves to explore! There are also several cafe's dotted around. Check website for opening hours.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed at Fountains Abbey, but MUST be kept on a lead. We recommend bringing an extendable lead, as long as you can keep the dogs away from the birds!

Fountains Abbey is a bird haven for pheasants, swans and ducks.
