North Yorkshire Walks and Hikes
March 12, 2024A question we often get asked by our guests is if there are any good walks near to Harrogate.
Here are some of my favourites walks from this year so far.
Rosedale Abbey near Pickering
Starting in the village of Rosedale Abbey, this walk was the perfect combination of beautiful scenery and lots of informational points along the route to learn about the history of the railway and the area. I loved the stunning views and being able to see the entire trail from the hills. As the path was built along the old railway lines, there were also plenty of interesting ruins to explore and see. There were plenty of information points on the history of the railway as well, making it the perfect walk for those interested in trains and history. See link for details.
Loop-Woodlesford, RSPB St Aidans
If you are looking for a nice easy walk then this is the one for you! The walk encompasses the local RSPB bird reserve, which of itself is worth a visit. The walk begins at the Woodlesford railway station and predominantly follows the river. There is a very nice pub just up the road form station. The perfect end to the walk. See link for more info.
Tolkien Trail & Longridge Fell
Fancy walking in the footsteps of one of our greatest writers? This picturesque walk across “middle earth” is perfect for all Tolkien lovers and those wanting a stunning walk with lots of views. There is plenty of variety to this walk, with the trail taking you along the river, through forests and across open countryside. See link for details.
Nidd Gorge: Knaresborough and Bilton Loop
The perfect walk for anyone visiting Harrogate! This walk is easy and is perfect for family groups. Make sure to check the weather beforehand because it can get very muddy and slippery, especially along the gorge. Make sure to take time to admire the scenery and feel free to bring the dog with you! See the link for more info.
