Great News for Creatives

Last Thursday we attended an Open Mic event at Victoria Avenue, Harrogate. The event was organised by Creative Harrogate, a new endeavour bringing together different creatives from in and around Harrogate. The plan is to put on events such as open mics and training programmes to help improve skills and create a community of artists. 

Harrogate Writers Collective 

A main feature of the open Mic was the Harrogate Writers Collective, a group of writers based in Harrogate. They meet up once a month to discuss ideas, run writing workshops and generally socialise with fellow writers and help one another achieve their aspirations. 

The group is open to all forms of writing from poets to novelists, and from any stage, whether it be published authors, someone just starting out, or successful screen writers. This group is open to all. 

Do not worry, if you have no desire to win a BAFTA or be the next JK Rowling, and just like writing for the fun of it, you are also more than welcome to come along! 

Amazing Talent. 

There was an abundance of talent in the room! There were incredible performances given by local actors and musicians, not to mention the before mentioned writers, including yours truly. 

Yes even I could not resist the urge to get up and read a couple of pieces, one of which has been published! Not to brag. Joel's poems were as darkly funny as ever- won't say too much as they need to heard in person to be believed. 

Paul's pitch for a musical set in an undertakers was truly inspired, and Sharon sung her ballad beautifully. 

But the stand out star of the evening was Stephen on guitar! 

All in all, a tremendous evening!  Would highly recommend. 

Possible up-coming events

At the moment there are no dates in the diary for future events, but do not worry. We will post a list of all upcoming events for Creative Harrogate once they have been released. Everything is very much in the early phases. 

There are weekly sewing classes on at the moment, every Tuesday evening 6-8pm.
