Winter walks in Harrogate

What better way to pass a wintery day than going for a stroll in or around Harrogate? Harrogate is home to some lovely places for you to visit this winter. Here is a list of our personal favourites:

The Valley  Gardens

Beautifully picturesque, Grade 2 listed: no visit to Harrogate would be complete without a walk around The Valley Gardens, coupled with a visit to Betty's Tea Rooms at the RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.

RHS Harlow Carr Gardens

One of our personal favourite places to visit in Harrogate. Winter is the best time of year to visit for one reason, the annual Christmas Illuminations

A truly spectacular experience for all guests, young and old.

Harewood House

Another family favourite of ours.  There is always something happening at Harewood, and winter is certainly no exception. Look out for Santa's Yorkshire based workshop, and those all important visits with Santa himself!

Stockled Park

Another great place to meet Santa!! There is also their annual winter light show, and ice skating. What more could you wish for?

Fountains Abbey

If you follow us on social media then you will know that Fountains Abbey is our favourite place to visit. There are a number of tea rooms, situated in the grounds. We would recommend the ones at Studley Royal, as you get a nice walk by the lake.  Not too mention the swans and ducks who congregate there.

Brimham Rocks

A remnant of the ice age and a geologists idea of heaven. These ancient extinct glaciers have been a local land mark for billions of years.

if you are after a short stroll amongst some interesting looking rocks, then this is the place to go. There is also a rather nice cafe and a book shop.

Bolton Abbey

A truly beautiful part of the country. There are number of long and short walks you can do in and around Bolton Abbey. Not to mention visiting the beautiful ruins of Bolton Abbey itself! Or indeed the surviving church build out of the ruins.

Ripon Cathedral

Another stunning place to visit. No walk around Ripon would be complete without popping in to the cathedral.

Would definite recommend checking out the catacombs. Do not worry, there are no dead bodies!  At least I don't remember there being any!

Spofforth Castle

Another great place to explore. Perfect for a leisurely walk with the family.  There is also some beautiful scenery around Spofforth.

Fewston and Swinsty Resevoirs

These two neighbouring reservoirs are great for those wanting a longer walk. You can choose to walk around one or both, depending on how long you want the walk to be.

Fewston itself usually takes around 1h-1h30mins whilst both reservoirs take around 3 hours to complete the circuit.

This is a favourite among dog walkers and adventurous families. Walk is on the flat.
