Self-catering holidays

April 29, 2021

We asked our guests to tell us why they choose self-catering rather than a hotel or guest house.

For some it is simply the convenience of having their own kitchen so they can prepare dishes to suit their particular needs and tastes.

For others it's the amount of space.  "For anything similar you'd be looking at a suite in a 5 star hotel, okay you get service, but in terms of quality it's the same if you choose your accommodation carefully."

Many of our guests come with a pet or pets.  For them it is essential to have their pet with them.  They are able to avoid separation issues and kennel fees.  For those travelling with children, it's the convenience of having a great kitchen and dining area, so its easy to cater to their needs.   Being in one private space makes it feel like home so it's easy to monitor children who may be asleep in another room.

For couples, they like the ambience created by a log burning fire and the gentle light emitted from carefully placed lamps. Being able to curl up on a sumptuous sofa and watch a film on a smart tv with a glass of something after work or a day spent shopping or walking in the Dales. A perfect way to relax and unwind.

In Harrogate it is difficult to find self-catering properties with outdoor space, let alone great outside spaces with patio heaters, BBQ and comfortable tables and chairs.  Patio heaters which use kiln dried kindling from sustainable sources are a great addition- no irritating radiant heat on your head, instead an enclosed fire which heats the area  - our guests love our chimineas - Artists' Cottages have all this and more!
