Things to do this Weekend.
April 07, 2023Whether it is evacuees traveling to the countryside (C.S Lewis) or children waving white handkerchiefs (E.Nesbit) , there is nothing which says Yorkshire quite like a Steam Train.
Oakworth Railway
Speaking of "The Railway Children", did you know that the famous “Daddy! Oh my Daddy!” scene from the 1970 film was filmed at Oakworth Railway Station?
It is still possible to catch a ride on a steam train from Oakworth today. Although running down the platform yelling for your dad may seem a little strange!
All information on train routes and tickets can be found on their website:
Oakworth Station - Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (kwvr.co.uk)
Wensleydale Railway
This railway is not made from cheese but is still worth visiting! Serving the moors of Yorkshire, this is a great railway if you are at all interested in steam engines or seeing the Dales from a comfortable seat.
The railway is also a great one for history enthusiasts - there are frequent tours and special events!
Wensleydale Railway are currently running some special offers, full details can be found on their website: Home - Wensleydale Railway (wensleydale-railway.co.uk)
National Railway Museum, York
Home of the Flying Scotsman, this museum is a must see for all railway enthusiasts!
The museum is tailored for family groups with special activities just for children. There are plenty of opportunities for adults and children to immerse themselves in the past and learn about the history of trains in Yorkshire.
Full datils and tickets can be found on their website: National Railway Museum
Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway
Fancy traveling around Yorkshire in style? Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is the way to do it.
We would recommend having their afternoon tea, which is a great present for fathers-day!
