Yorkshire Film Locations

July 04, 2023

Here is something you don’t hear about every day.  The best of Hollywood coming to Yorkshire to film the latest Blockbusters. In a recent article in “The Telegraph” newspaper (How Hollywood fell in love with Yorkshire), Helen Pickles, outlines several filming locations in North Yorkshire. From “Indiana Jones” to “Harry Potter” the north of England is becoming the place to be.

Fancy a driving tour around the filming locations of Yorkshire? It is not as difficult as you might think. Harrogate is no stranger to film crews and happens to be the perfect central location to get to all the great filming destinations.

Halifax- As Venice “Indiana Jones 5

I know what you are thinking, “Halifax…Really?” that was certainly my reaction when I read the before mentioned article. It was extraordinary to hear how James Mangold and his team were able to take a street in Halifax and transform it into Venice. What is even more incredible is that they were not even the first to see Halifax’s potential.

It would not surprise me to discover plenty of future films using Halifax as a location in the future.

Back in 2018 The Artic Monkeys filmed a music video at Castle Howard to promote their new album “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino”. They did a great job at show casing the histoic house which is open to the public!

Ribblehead Viaduct: Harry Potter

Ok we are reaching slightly on this one as any true “Potter Head” knows the actual viaduct used in the films was The Glenfinnan Viaduct in Scotland.

However, if you grew up in Yorkshire and are familiar with the location of the real-life Hogwarts (no, the not one at Paramount) you know that the Ribblehead Viaduct and Settle-Carlisle Railway line would have been JK Rawlings inspiration for the route taken by the Hogwarts Express.
